How an AC-DC Converter Works

An AC-DC converter is an electrical device that converts alternating current (AC) power to direct current (DC) power. This is a critical component in many electronic devices, as most electronics require DC power to operate, but AC power is typically what is delivered from wall outlets.

After the transformer steps down the voltage, the AC power is then rectified. This means that the AC power is converted to pulsating DC power. This pulsating DC power is not suitable for most electronic devices, so it must be further converted to a smoother, more consistent DC power.
To achieve this, the pulsating DC power is passed through a smoothing capacitor. This capacitor helps to eliminate the peaks and valleys in the pulsating DC power, resulting in a smoother, more consistent DC power.
The final component in the AC-DC converter is a voltage regulator. This component ensures that the DC power output stays a consistent voltage, regardless of any fluctuations in the input voltage or current.
Overall, the AC-DC converter is a critical component in many electronic devices. Without this converter, many electronics would not be able to operate properly, as they require DC power to function. By stepping down the voltage, rectifying the AC power, and smoothing the DC power, the converter ensures that electronic devices receive the power they need to operate efficiently and effectively.
